Tips to lose weight

On this page I have put together some helpful (well, hopefully) tips to lose weight.

Are you in the position that no matter what you do you are unable to lose weight? This is a very common problem. It certainly can be about a lot more than “just diet and exercise”. There are so many other important factors. Our unable to lose weight page looks at this in a lot more detail.

Crash Diets

One very big tip is to avoid any “crash diets”. Many of these make bold claims that you will lose huge amounts of weight in a very short time frame. Whilst the claims may be true for some of them, there can often be health risks associated with them.

Avoid yoyo type dieting

Yo yo dieting is where you lose weight, sometimes too quickly, then pile it back on again. Many people repeatedly go round in this cycle.

Yo yo dieting is not good for your health. A slow consistent healthy diet is always better.

Sugar Intake

The amount of sugar you eat can have a dramatic effect on your weight. Nowadays, we have more and more processed food and most processed foods contain a lot of sugar.

Did you know that foods with these ingredients contain added sugar:

Corn sweeteners, evaporated cane juice, high fructose corn syrup, malt, molasses.

There are many more too.

For this reason, it can be a good idea to learn how to read food labels and learn all the tricks they use to try and trick you!

Alcohol and weight loss

Did you know that a few alcoholic beverages often contain more calories than your dinner? Moderating your drinking can be a very important part of your weight loss plan.

In some cases there are non-alcoholic alternatives to your favorite drinks. Many of these have a lot fewer calories. Find out more on my alcohol page.

100 calorie snacks

Are you always snacking? Constant snacking can result in you taking in substantially more calories. If you snack a couple of times a day on the wrong thing, it can be the equivalent of adding an extra main meal to your diet every day! This will obviously impair your weight losing efforts.

Set realistic goals

One of the very important tips to lose weight is to set yourself realistic goals. A realistic goal for many is 2lbs per week, but slow and steady is always better than rapid weight loss.

Serving sizes

This one is probably one of the best tips to lose weight.

Your portion sizes are very important. Make sure they are not too big. Your serving size should be related to your weight. If you are only 4ft 10 weight 130lbs, you obviously don't need as much as somebody who is 6ft 5 weight 250lbs.

Food Labels

As you know, an important factor in losing weight is the number of calories we eat each day. My question to you is, Do you know how to find out how many calories you are eating?
